What are you reading now?

Nobody has posted in a while... what are you currently reading?  I've got two books going right now:

  • Getting Things Done, by David Allen.  Presents a system for getting organized and making sure that all the important stuff gets done.  It's very interesting, and there are some guys at work who swear by the method, but I'm having a hard time finding time to read it.
  • If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor, by Bruce Campbell.  Interesting, but totally fluff.  I will write more about this later, but it shows remarkably little introspection -- so far, it's focused almost entirely on getting his movies made.  I think he spent three paragraphs talking about his divorce.
Anyway, what are the rest of you reading?  How are the books going?

  1. I'm currently about 2/3rds of the way through "The Omnivore's Dilemma." I highly recommend this book to anyone that eats food on a regular basis.

It is very thought provoking. I was worried it would be a book based on shock value and one-off horror stories from big biz or one-off success stories of the little guy. It's pretty well balanced in content if not in editorial opinion. The author feels that large industrial farming isn't a good thing for people or the planet but, like so many others who feel the same, has a hard time coming up with real alternatives. I expect the final third of the book to wrap up some thoughts and themes but this has already got me thinking.

Will it change the way I eat? Maybe. Has it changed the way I look at food, in particular processed food and "big organic?" Absolutely.

  2. I am working on a John LeCarre's "A Most Wanted Man". As Dad posted, I am having a hard time getting into it, but have finally got the plot and characters figured out. I want to get it done as I have a book on the back burner, "The Hobbit" - one I have never read and one that I am curious about... what is the fuss with Bilbo Baggins? I guess I will find out.

I have ordered Omnivore's Dilemma from the local book shop and it should be in any time. I am nervous about reading it - will I still be able to eat chicken nuggets and tater tots?
